Some exit, broader than the main road, steals me away. A sign says FRESH COFFEE. The parking lot is deserted. The cafe is empty. I sit down, place Anne Sexton's Live or Die in front of me like a place mat. The lucky green Heineken pen clipped on the cover for notes. A breasty waitress comes over. She’s tall, had hope once and lost it. But there's gratefulness, even eagerness in the way she moves toward me.

Suddenly I'm soaking in the bathtub, drinking wine from the Rockport mug, smoking, staring at Anne Sexton. I lower the book to the floor, raise myself, and step into the room, dripping on the carpet. The full-length mirror on the outside of the bathroom door faces a mirror wall that magnifies an alcove with hooks and coat hangers.
